Bike Rides: The Exhibition

October 2nd, 2009

Join us in a new exhibition that features approximately thirty bicycle-related works from around the world, including functional cycles—ranging from cutting–edge designs to populist expressions—as well as bicycle–inspired sculpture and video. Organized by Aldrich curators Richard Klein and Mónica Ramírez–Montagut, with the advice of musician, artist, and bicycle advocate David Byrne, the exhibition explores the growing relevance of bicycles in contemporary art and culture. We are honored that the curators chose a nude finished Z1 for this show.

Introducing BB30 Option for Z1, Z2 and Z3

June 2nd, 2009

For 2009 we are excited to offer a BB30 option for our Z1, Z2 and Z3 frame sets. BB30 is a (relatively) new open standard, originally launched by Cannondale, that is threadless and uses a larger bore and therefore axle for the crank versus standard English-threaded bottom brackets.  Benefits can include lighter overall combined weight, lower Q factor, increased stiffness as well as increased ankle clearance.

We have offered a similar sized option for both the ZIPP Vuma series as well as the THM crankset since 2006, so this concept is not necessarily “new” to us, but the BB30 spacing is a little different than the ZIPP or the THM. Crank options are now shipping from SRAM, FSA and others. The BB30 compatible bottom bracket is being offered as an option when a frame is ordered. The 68mm English threaded standard is still the standard on all our frames.

Introducing ISP options

April 29th, 2009

We have been asked the last 2-3 years for ISP (Integrated Seat Post) on a regular basis and we have built a few. We like them in general terms, but have always been upfront about the potential limiting issues with them, specifically travel, shipping and fitting issues. Because of those issues, we have never offered an ISP on any of our stock designs, and we do not plan to anytime soon. However, given the nature of our custom bikes, meaning we have a serious discussion with the rider and the dealer about all custom options, we feel that offering the ISP option on custom frames now makes sense. We are initially offering them with Ritchey WCS “stubby” posts that feature small amounts of vertical adjustment and a nicely executed one-bolt fastening system, although it appears that there will be some additional 34.9mm ID post options this year.
